Bitter Sweet made their second annual appearance on the GreggFest stage on night two of GreggFest 2025.
Bitter Sweet, a band from Vermont State University’s Lyndon Campus, placed second in the Battle of the Bands hosted at The Loading Dock earlier this year. This earned them a spot as the third act of the night and the final student band to perform this year. The band jumped right into two of their original songs: “Hero Complex,” followed by “Spite.” The performance marked the one-year anniversary of the release of the single “Hero Complex.”
Their first cover of the set was a new addition for the band: “Sweetness,” from Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World. To match the western theme of the night, the band pulled out the pop-country hit “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood. It was a surprising choice, but the audience was quickly screaming along.
The band debuted two new originals to the crowd’s excitement. The first song, titled “Money and Fame,” was a high-energy rock track with themes reminiscent of songs like “Rockstar” by Nickelback. Bitter Sweet had played this song at a previous Loading Dock show, but it was new to most of the students in the crowd.
Flipping both themes and tempo dramatically, the second song, “Not the Only One,” was a slower rock ballad that highlighted the powerful voice of lead singer Mollie Jean. While introducing the song, Mollie made sure to note its fictional nature, as the lyrics delved into toxic relationships and infidelity.
To finish their set, Bitter Sweet performed their well-loved cover of “Misery Business” from Paramore’s Riot album, followed by the band’s most popular original, “Waste Deep.” Bitter Sweet will be performing again on Saturday, May 10, at Alchemy in Providence, Rhode Island, for the first time.
