Arrows In Action returns to Brighton Music Hall for the Boston stop on their “I Think We’ve Toured Here Before” tour. Three years since the band headlined at the midsized venue the growth of the band is astounding as fans wrap around the block in anxious anticipation for the sold out show.
Kicking off the night Instant Crush jumped on stage opening with “GRUDGE” a grunge-rock song featuring heavy synths and a crashing beat from the band’s first studio album I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE that released early this year.
The intense energy of lead singer Megan Cannon instantly brought the crowd back to the high energy radio rock anthems of the early 2000s. Ripping into their second song “A CINEMATIC EXIT!” the energy pushed past 100% with the intense drum beat and heated guitar complimenting Megan’s clean vocals. Instant Crush’s unique style pulls from early 2000s rock and alternative iconic sound punching it up with high energy guitar riffs, playful synth accents and deeply personal lyrics. Joining front woman band members Matthew Tran on drums, Keegan Mangahas on guitar, and Zoee Mangahas on bass complete the Instant Crush lineup.

With fiery chemistry the band kicked the energy up. The group shook up their setlist swapping the ending of their original “CALL ME CRAZY” with a fun rendition of the chorus of “Love Drunk” by Boys Like Girls that had the audience screaming along. Although Instant Crush mainly performed songs off their newest release I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE fans were electrified as the band started performing “will i always feel this way?” a single the band released in 2021.

The single still sits as one of the group’s most popular songs on streaming. Finishing their set with a bang the group performed the final song on their new album “STAB MY BACK” the heavy song had the crowd cheering and jumping around with the band bringing the energy to a new level as Instant Crush left the stage.

Second to the stage, iconic duo Good Boy Daisy opened their set with their 2020 single “Grey” the slow building pop rock ballad highlights lead singer Hallie Mayes strong vocals and the swinging complex guitar riffs let guitarist Dylinn Mayes shine. Hallie and Dylinn Mayes, twin sisters, formed Good Boy Daisy in 2015 pulling together funky pop rock vibes with the influence of their 90s grunge upbringing. The duo has recently released their debut studio EP Blitz carving out their own space in the alternative music scene. Hallie and Dylinn’s relationship as twins has uniquely driven their connection and chemistry on stage bringing an electricity that breathes life into their performance.
While supporting Arrows In Action on tour Hallie and Dylinn are joined by studio musicians Jackson Lee on Guitar and Logan Dolezal on drums. The full band brought a dynamic energy to the Brighton stage with their upbeat original songs and fiery performance. The band performed several songs from their new EP starting with “Supermodel” the uptempo beat, crunchy guitar tone, and breathy vocals of the song made it an instant jam. Followed by a little softer song “Chai Tea Baby” incorporates more of the soft pop side of the group’s sound in an upbeat love song.

Nearing the end of Good Boy Daisy’s set the group surprised the crowd with a rambunctious cover of “I Kissed A Girl” by Katy Perry. This fired up the audience for the last two songs “Someone Like You” and “Summer Love” two of the duo’s most popular songs. The incredibly upbeat and high energy song “Summer Love” features feel good lyrics and a beat easy to dance and sing along too. While this was the last song of Good Boy Daisy’s set it left the crowd excited for more.

The packed venue was buzzing with excitement as Arrows In Action took to the stage. The crowd pushed towards the stage vapid with excitement as the first chords to “Celebration” rang out. As lead singer Victor bounded on stage with guitarist Matt and drummer Jesse the excitement boiled over. The band launched right from the chorus of “Celebration” into “Deja Vu”. Victor later shared that choosing what songs to include on their setlists has become more and more difficult as their catalog has grown leading to the band including several mashups between songs to pack in as much for fans as possible.
Shortly before the beginning of the tour it was revealed that drummer Jesse would not be able to drum for this tour due to a recent hand surgery however this did not stop him from performing with the band with incredible passion. Filling in on drums for this tour is Ronnie Strauss the drummer for the band I Don’t Know How But They Found Me who performed with Arrows In Action supporting Boys Like Girls on the The Soundtrack of Your Life Tour earlier this spring.

The band continued to perform several of their newer songs including an unreleased single titled “Shut Up” that has previewed on social media and is set to release on September 18th. The band has blown up in popularity since their last time visiting Brighton Music Hall during the Built to Last tour during summer 2023 it was incredible to see the growth in the crowd from that show to this sold out performance. In celebration of this tour which has a strong focus on the growth and love of the band revisiting venues they have previously headlined each venue has gotten a stripped down performance of an earlier song from the band for this performance that was “Close Enough” a single released in 2019. Boston will be the only crowd to hear this song performed on this tour. Other songs that have been performed in this slot so far are “Endeavor” from the bands first album Be More, “M.J.F” from their 2017 EP Coasting and “Honey” a single from 2020. This unique setlist decision connects long term fans and new fans alike while bringing their older songs into this new era.

To round out their main setlist the group performed “Put You Through Me” a song ripe with emotional lyricism and deep vocals the song released as a single and on the album Built to Last and quickly became and remains one of Arrows In Action’s most popular songs.

Rather than just disappearing from the stage to build hype for an encore Arrows In Action featured a pre-recorded conversation between Jesse, Victor, and Matt building hype for their return to the stage the three joked around about forgetting something before the group bounded back on stage to perform an encore featuring “Uncomfortably Numb” from their first album Be More and “Cheekbones” a featured single from the band’s third and newest album I Think I’ve Heard This Before while there is a 3 year gap in these songs release they continue to be the band’s consistent top two songs on all streaming platforms. While the night ended the energy was through the roof as Arrows In Action left the stage for the final time.
