Lighting up the small stage at O’Briens pub with sequins and flair GayC/DC made a wild return to Boston.
Opening for the glamourous GayC/DC the high-energy three-piece band Stars Like Ours blends a mix of rock and punk vibes touched by pop influences. Stars Like Ours didn’t let any technical difficulties slow them down on the stage at O’Brien’s. Due to some grounding issues, there was some trouble with feedback when the band was not playing instead of stalling the show the lead singer and bassist just said, “we’ll just have to keep rocking for you”. With their incredible stage presence and chemistry, the lead singer, guitarist, and drummer rocked the audience through a set filled with their original songs including “A Way to Remember”, “Counting All the Ways”, “Better Every day”, “What’s Going Wrong”, and “Winding Down” from their newest EP Better Every Day. While keeping the energy high the band was heartfelt especially as they finished their performance with their single “All Too Often” the first song the band wrote together 14 years ago.
The fabulous AC/DC cover band GayC/DC hit hard with a setlist full of the bands most popular songs – with a twist. Opening their performance of “It’s A Long Way To The Top” with only some slight lyrical changes and a fun melodica solo from lead singer Chris Freeman replacing the traditional bagpipe solo the tone for the night was set. The band jumped headfirst into their rendition of AC/DC’s “Walk All Over You” “Cum All Over You”. In addition to the theatrical nature of the band’s performance Chris jumped down into the crowd during the chorus of “Cum All Over You” spraying audience members with a can of silly string. Keeping with the sexual humor the band twisted “If You Want Blood” into “If You Want Cum”.
While Chris continued interacting with audience members and prancing around the stage, lead guitarist Steve McKnight was shredding in his short skirt and knee-high socks. With his wireless setup he was quickly right in the thick of the crowd interacting with fans and photographers while keeping with AC/DC’s intense guitar melodies. Joined on stage by Brian Welch a Boston raised drummer, longtime bassist Glen Pavan, and the newest member Topher Ruby on rhythm guitar the band continued to perform excentric covers like “PNP” for “TNT” and “Gay Boy Boogie” instead of “Bad Boy Boogie” while performing Chris continued showering the audience with pops fit for the glamourus performance like pills for “Shoot to Thrill” and fake money for “Honey, What Do You Do For Money?”.
While the band was there to have a good time with the audience they did not shy away from the intense political climate. Unfortunately, the existence of GayC/DC is automatically political with their open support and identity with the LQBTQIA community. GayC/DC offers a fabulous opportunity for fans to dress up in their best glam rock outfits and sing along to fantastic and fun covers of their favorite AC/DC songs.
