Coffee and Cream started GreggFest with a bang, and lots of swag
Coffee and Cream is a newly assembled band consisting of five members: Finn Paterson (bass), Michael Matsi (vocals), Nolan Harold (drums), Izak Duncan (mandolin), and Robert McNelly (guitar), who is a founding member of the band. Some of these members have been seen singing and playing anywhere from open mic nights at VTSU-Lyndon campus events to residence hall lobbies. Since then, they have performed at Battle of the Bands at the Loading Dock in Littleton, NH, where they qualified for Greggfest. Personally, we couldn’t think of a more electrifying band to kick off the festival. It only got more entertaining when they unbuttoned their shirts and everything started to feel like a classic boy band show.
A lot of their songs matched their energy and style; one that stood out the most was “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton. They gave such a fun performance that the audience kept shouting out song requests. At first, the night started out a little quiet, but once the band got louder, everyone moved up and started dancing. One thing that really stood out was their confidence, you wouldn’t have known this was their first Greggfest, given how in tune they were with each other and how they interacted with the audience. They gave off a country rock vibe; while we’re not sure that’s their exact genre, much of their music sounded like it.
The photo moments captured were a lot of interaction with the audience and the lead singer Matsi dancing around the band members. They were very passionate about feeling connected and showing the audience how they get into the songs. It’s funny, in their words they describe themselves as procrastinators when they appeared to be fully prepared for this show. It would be awesome to see these guys play more, and hopefully they get the chance to play at next years Greggfest. Make sure to check out their insta and keep and eye out for next semesters events, you might see them perform soon!
